THE Fijiana 7s team has also started their training camp yesterday as Iliesa Tanivula continues to try and put together a formidable combination to test in the Mana Whey Coral Coast 7s.
About 18 players were to march into camp yesterday with Ebony Satala expected to join them from Australia next week, Tanivula still hopes that they would get financial assistance to help him increase the number of girls in his base squad.
“We’ve done three weeks through Christmas and New Year’s, and every Friday we did sand dunes, which was really hard but some of the girls really got into it,” Tanivula said.
He added this was something they had planned after their fifth place finish in Dubai in the first leg of the women’s series where they saw the need to lift up their fitness standards.
He said while the 18 players currently in camp would be enough going into the Coral Coast 7s, with Satala to join them next week, there was still a need for more players to join them going into the series.
“It would be nice to have at least three players vying for a spot, that would also make work easier for me because there are always bound to be injuries and other factors that can affect a player,” Tanivula said.
“Hopefully in Coral Coast 7s we’ll find one or two players but we still need to extend the player base,” he added.
