POLICE investigation into allegations of assault at a prominent Suva school will also scrutinise the whereabouts of teachers at the time of the incident, Fiji Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said.

She confirmed a meeting between the school management and parents last Friday heard that police had reiterated that no charges would be withdrawn and the matter could only be solved in court.

Ms Naisoro said a thorough investigation would follow and investigators would need statements from all eight victims despite only two reporting the matter at the Totogo Police Station on April 7.

The alleged assault took place on school premises during school hours on March 17.

Ms Naisoro said more than 20 senior students were alleged to have assaulted eight junior students over a social media post.

A parent of the victim said allegations were levelled at senior students for punching and using sticks to beat younger students over a social media post that spurred from an earlier Suva bus stand brawl between two female students.

“Police did not initiate the meeting as it was done between the school management and parents but we informed the school heads that we would be present,” Ms Naisoro said.
