The Fiji Medical Association has strongly condemned a recent assault case of one of its doctors at the Wainibokasi Health Centre.

Association president Dr Basharat Munshi says the association strongly condemns this “cowardly act” and that the matter has been reported to Nausori Police Station.

“We wish to make it explicitly clear that violence, whether physical or verbal against any doctors will not be tolerated,” Dr Munshi said.

“Violence against any member of the public is wrong.

“In a civil society, any disagreement or grievance should be dealt with in an amicable manner and violence will never be condoned.

“We implore to the public that we should all strive to be more humane, respectful, courteous and well mannered.”

Meanwhile, police spokesperson Ana Naisoro had confirmed the alleged assault case.

She said on Wednesday, March 2, Police had arrested and charged a 49-year-old business contractor of Lami with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm, and one count of destroying evidence.
