NOTHING has materialised yet on the proposed Labasa bypass road, says the Fiji Roads Authority asset manager North, Amit Deo.

He said this when the issue of traffic congestion was raised during a public consultation on the review of taxi permits at the Salvation Army hall in Labasa.

“It’s still at discussion level,” Mr Deo said.

He said developing a bypass road was a complex process, and not a project that could be developed overnight.

“This is not an easy exercise, it does not take a day or year for the planned project to materialise.”

He said developing a bypass road would also be a costly exercise for the Government.

“It will also take time and there’s no guarantee when the planned bypass road will materialise.”

The bypass road was planned to be constructed along the tramline in Labasa Town to cater to the growing traffic.
