Fiji Airports yesterday signed an agreement with an Australian-based architectural company as its consultant to develop the landside master plan for both the Nadi and Nausori airports.
COX Architecture Pty Ltd was awarded the project after a thorough tender process.
Fiji Airports CEO Mesake Nawari said the international company was considered for this crucial development stage because it had demonstrated competence on similar international airports Aerotropolis, and airport city such as the new Western Sydney International Airport in the past two years.
COX project specialists have carried out infrastructure projects at Singapore’s Changi Airport Terminal 3, New Delhi International Airport Terminal 3 and Sydney International Airport.
He said the consultant had 32 weeks to complete the scope of works.
“We are excited about the Nadi and Nausori airports master plan because it will provide diversification opportunities into our non-aeronautical part of our business complementing our core business of air traffic and airport management,” Mr Nawari said in a statement yesterday.
He said the landside master plan would be dovetailed with the 2024 -2048 Nadi Airport airside masterplan endorsed by Government on October 7 this year.
He said Fiji Airports played an invaluable role in realising the vision to be a vital player in aviation in the region, and they needed to work on developing infrastructures to cater for growing air travel demands.
“Our track record speaks for itself and by constantly redefining standards of excellence, these projects at the airport will change the way people think about air travel and business opportunities.”
Fiji Airports is already rolling with its Nadi airport airside projects.
Work includes upgrading existing facilities and infrastructure, construction of new gates and new state-of-the-art domestic terminal, extension and construction of new car parking lots, and new aerobridges to replace existing passenger boarding tunnels. It also includes departure lounge extension, additional off gate aprons, new gates and domestic apron extension.
