An expert in solar electrification program has seen some inconsistencies in the installation of solar connections in villages of Vanua Levu.

Paul Huang, executive of Dawn Renewable Energy which recently opened in Labasa, has done some assessments on solar installations in villages and saw that installation was not done properly.

“We have very high demand for solar in Vanua Levua and that’s why we opened a branch in Labasa to help people this side get the best solar supply,” he said.

“Before I came here, I carried out some assessments and travelled to areas that have solar panels and saw that the batteries were damaged or the solar controller burnt.

“For some solar panels, the design was not right so we are here to provide guidance and help people especially farmers in rural areas get the right type of solar machines.”

Mr Huang said his team would design and work with manufacturers in China to put together solar panels with its elements to suit the needs of customers.

“One thing we will look at when visiting customers houses who want solar panels installed is the wind direction, sunshine in the area whether we have more sunlight than rain and also the surrounding,” he said.

“So when there are big trees around the house then we need to adjust the solar panels and we also will need to see where the sun is positioned.

“These are important things we need to consider before installing the solar panels and we have received a lot of complaints from customers.”

Mr Huang said he would open another branch on Taveuni and Kadavu.
