DEFENDING champions of the Escott Shield, Police Blues defeated a determined Ratu Kadavulevu School Old Boys rugby club 19-13 in the first round meeting of the Suva Rugby Union Escott Shield competition at Nasova ground yesterday.

“The first game will always be tough,” said Police Blues coach Solo Nute.

RKSOB drew first blood taking an early 6-0 lead through two penalties from RKSOB flyhalf Napolioni Vueti in the first 20 minutes.

“Players learn to adjust to the conditions of the game, before they can produce the results expected,” Nute said.

Police slowly rumbled forward through an unconverted try through blindside flanker Meli Buarua.

Police led 12-6 at half-time.
