The Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry has invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) from suitably qualified and experienced architectural and engineering firms or consultants for the design of a State-of-the-Art Girmit Museum.
In a public notice, the Ministry said the proposed museum will be a national cultural landmark, aimed at commemorating and preserving the history, resilience and contributions of the Girmitiyas (Indian indentured labourers) and their descendants in Fiji.
Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Charan Jeath Singh had earlier announced the museum will be constructed behind the current Girmit Centre in Lautoka.
The successful consultant will be required to undertake stakeholder consultations, develop concept and schematic designs, and prepare a detailed architectural and engineering design for the museum.
The Ministry stated that all EOIs must be received no later than 4pm on January 13, 2026.
