The Electoral (Amendment) Bill 2026 seeks to broaden participation in Fiji’s electoral process while strengthening the administration of elections and introducing clearer classifications for electoral offences.
Acting Attorney-General Siromi Turaga told Parliament the proposed amendments would modernise Fiji’s electoral framework through changes to the Electoral Act 2014.
“The proposed amendments are designed to facilitate broader participation in the electoral process, improve the administration of elections [and] clearly define electoral offences through a new classification system of corrupt and illegal electoral practices,” Mr Turaga said.
He said the Bill also responded to issues identified during recent consultations on Fiji’s electoral laws.
Changes are also proposed to provisions governing election campaigns, postal voting and pre-poll voting.
Mr Turaga said these areas needed to be updated to better reflect current realities and support the efficient conduct of elections.

Mr Turaga said the reforms were intended to strengthen Fiji’s electoral system and public confidence in democratic institutions.
