SNOOKER players from around the country will convene in Suva for the East v West Competition this Sunday.
The competition, sponsored by supermarket chain Shop N Save, will be staged for 80 players across a variety of categories as Team West will defend the title.
Team West won 10 out of 17 frames against Team East.
Players will compete in nine singles events, six doubles, a veteran clash and a billiard clash.
The president of the Southern Division Billiard and Snooker Association, David Shiu Ratnam said the format could change if more competitors came forward to express their interest.
As hosts, the association has gone above and beyond to ensure the competition this year continues the momentum maintained in previous meets such as last year’s at the Lautoka Club.
The competition there was organised by the North West Billiard and Snooker Association (NWBSA).
Part of their build-up to the competition was sending a team to compete in the Nausori Snooker Club competition last weekend.
“This year, we’ve done a lot of preparation. Our players have been practicing daily now,” Ratnam shared.
“We are prepared to put forward this battle this year, so we are doing the hard work on this to win the battle this year.”
With competition slated for this Saturday and high numbers of participants confirmed, Ratnam and the association are optimistic of what the event will bring for all involved.
“We welcome all North West players and spectators, even the visitors, whoever wants to come; everybody is welcome,” he said.
Adding to the excitement is the possibility of snooker player numbers increasing from 80 to 100.
The event will be held at the Merchant Club in Suva on Sunday.
