Energy Fiji Ltd says there were no anomalies to a bill belonging to a pensioner whose power was disconnected last week.

Responding to an article in The Fiji Times yesterday which quoted Etuate Balekana calling on Government to waive his bills. EFL CEO Hasmukh Patel said the 73-year-old Wailea, Vatuwaqa resident’s bill was overdue and power was restored when he paid it in full.

“Contrary to the published Fiji Times article titled, ‘Decision upsetting, says resident’ on Monday 1st June, 2020, there were no anomalies to the bill,” said Mr Patel.

“The outstanding amount of $414.05 was for an overdue bill of $258.73 for the period 12th February to 9th March, 2020, and another bill of $155.32 for the period 10th March to 7th April, 2020.

“Whilst payments were made towards the bills, these payments were not made in full, hence the disconnection.”

Mr Patel said “bills should also be settled on time and in full to avoid any inconvenience.”
