A high school teacher embroiled in an online attack against National Federation Party parliamentarian Lenora Qereqeretabua has been suspended.

“Mr Kumar was suspended at midday today (yesterday) until such time as investigations are completed,” said Education Minister Rosy Akbar.

“His suspension was done at the recommendation of our human resources department.”

Meanwhile, Ms Qereqeretabua said the alleged attacks by Kishore Kumar against her had only strengthened her resolve.

Mr Kumar allegedly made personal attacks against Ms Qereqeretabua on his Facebook page.

“I am the tough older child and big sister but for some young woman or young man facing online harassment, bullying, racism, misogyny or homophobia, this can stop them from speaking out, running for public office or worse,” she said.

“People have taken their own lives over stuff like this.” Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said the Criminal Investigation Department was investigating a complaint filed by Ms Qereqeretabua.
