FIJI Drua coach Senirusi Seruvakula wants us to converge on Churchill Park this afternoon when they take on the might of the Canberra Vikings.
The historic first home National Rugby Championship semi-final is already attracting massive attention.
However, it seems the Drua’s home games have recorded average crowds in the past, especially with it being shown live on free-to-air television.
Seruvakula said they faced a stiff challenge against the Vikings.
It should be noted that the Vikings had stretched us to the limit when we clashed in an earlier round of the competition.
But playing at home in front of our home crowd, Seruvakula said, was massive.
To have a big crowd, he said, would be a huge morale booster for the team.
There can be no doubts about the fact that the Vikings will be out to avenge their loss to the Drua two weeks ago in Lautoka.
They have named four Australian Wallabies in Pete Samu, Rory Arnold, Tom Banks and Joe Powell in their team for this all-important clash.
Seruvakula, on the other hand has made just one change to the starting team that defeated the Western Force last week.
He has brought back NRC top scorer Apisalome Waqatabu at fullback.
“The boys have been competing all week, showing me how much they want this and our preparations have been really focused. They are ready to play,” he said.
The Drua have suffered just one loss in the regular season.
Today though they will play the biggest game of their lives.
This is when all their victories will either stand them in good stead or mean nothing at all.
Today is when all negative thoughts are cast aside and they run onto the field on an even plane with the Vikings.
That’s when the team that wants victory the most could very well have an edge.
This afternoon is one step closer for both sides to the final of the competition.
The Drua have been on a high plane.
They have turned heads and attracted the imagination of fans around the country.
With the end-of-year tour coming up for the Flying Fijians, this is another opportunity for the Drua players to attract the attention of head coach John McKee.
It’s another chance to live their dreams, and mix it with the big boys of the sport.
