FIJI-BORN French Pro D2 rugby player Johnny Dyer’s contract with his club, the Biarritz Olympique Pays Basque (BOPB) has been extended until 2027.

His contract was to expire this June according to French sports website RugbyRama.

The club’s sports director James Coughlan expressed with enthusiasm what his extension would mean for Dyer and the club.

“His extension is excellent news for the future of the club and we know that he will continue to fly the BOPB colours high over the next two seasons,” Coughlan mentioned on the team’s website.

“Since his arrival in 2020, he has established himself as a key player in the team and his importance within the group is evident, whether through his qualities on the pitch or his influence off the pitch.”

The club announced the extension on Christmas Day on their social media pages, which serves as a boost for the flanker, who ruptured his Achilles tendon last year in a preparation match against Bayonne.

“His injury was a test for the group at the very start of the season, but he has worked tirelessly to come back and the progress he is showing in his recovery is very promising and we hope to see him this season,” he added.

Coughlan stressed how vital Dyer was to the team, by highlighting his prominence in France and the vigour he displayed on the field.

“Johnny (Dyer) is recognised in France as an outstanding striker and a great ball carrier, but he also brings admirable fighting spirit and team spirit,” he said.
