TWO young men who once struggled with life on the streets were among 140 graduates celebrated at the Centre for Appropriate Technology and Development (CATD) Nadave graduation ceremony at Cakau Hall in Kinoya on Friday.
Apolosa Caginivanua and Mosese Moceyawa Waqanisau, both 19, were supported through the Inspire Pacific Tagane Mai program, and graduated with certificates in welding and fabrication after being recognised as the best trainees in their class.
For the two young men, reaching graduation marked a significant turning point after overcoming difficult circumstances before joining the program.
CATD director Apolosa Silatolu said their achievement was a testament to the challenges they had overcome.
“It may not seem like much, but it is testament to the battles and struggles they have had to overcome to reach this stage,” he said.
Chief guest and Narita Airport Business Co Ltd president Hideharu Miyamoto praised the graduates for their dedication and hard work.
The 140 graduates completed training in automotive engineering, carpentry, plumbing, welding and electrical engineering.
Some graduates will have opportunities to work in Japan through the Bula Japan project, a partnership between Narita Airport Business and Colour Your Life.
Mr Miyamoto reminded graduates that whether they work overseas or contribute to Fiji, their skills, work ethic and conduct would reflect on their country.
