Maintaining possession and keep strong communication on the field was the message from co-coaches Iosefo Masi and Selestino Ravutaumada to the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua 7s team as they fought to keep their chances in the cup elimination alive.
The Fijian Drua squad bounced back after a tough 7-26 loss to Fiji Blue in their opening Pool A match.
They kept their main Cup elimination chances alive with two hard-earned victories, defeating Western Wardens 10-5 in their second match and shutting out TEMC Warriors 15-0 in their final pool game.
Ravutaumada, embracing his coaching role at the Mataso 7s, emphasised the importance of discipline and teamwork.
“I’m enjoying my role as coach in this Mataso 7s,” he said.
“Our main message to the boys has been to keep strong communication on the field and not to give away possession too easily.”
While the team has shown improvement, Ravutaumada acknowledged there are still areas to refine.
“We have to work on a few mistakes before the elimination round,” he added.
