THE Swire Shipping Fijian Drua head into this weekend’s Super Round in Christchurch with growing belief as they prepare to face the Chiefs on Sunday.

Head coach Glen Jackson said the mood in camp was positive, boosted by the return of key leaders — Frank Lomani and Temo Mayanavanua.

“The boys are in good spirits. We’re excited,” Jackson said.

“Now that Frank and Temo are back, we’ve got a solid outfit that’s going to turn up and give it a good crack.”

The Drua remain firmly in the hunt for a top-six finish, having won two matches in a row as they push towards the playoffs.

“It is, mate.

“I love this club. I’ve been here for a long time. To see what we’re like now around the professionalism, trainings and belief I think that’s one of the biggest things right now,” he said.

“The boys know the pathway to get them to the quarterfinals, and hard work hopefully can pay off.”

While confidence is building, Jackson admits his side faces a tough challenge against a Chiefs outfit coming off a strong win over the Hurricanes.

“We can (win), but we’ve also got to do something that we haven’t done that’s three in a row. We’re always here to try and create history, but we’re under no illusion,” he said.

“The Chiefs are the Chiefs. They’ve just beaten the so-called favourites in the Hurricanes and will have huge confidence going into that game.”

Jackson also highlighted the significance of the occasion, with Christchurch hosting the Super Round at a world-class venue.

With momentum on their side, the Drua know preparation will be key if they are to pull off another upset.

“The boys are going to have to play well and continue to start well. They’ve got to prepare well, and if we do that, we’re obviously a good chance.”
