Market vendors in Nadi Town claim the continuous dry season in the country has affected the price of vegetables in the marketplace.

Nadi Market Vendors Association president Lia Launimate said it was a major worry for most vendors during this period.

She said vegetables at the market were a bit expensive because of the long drought.

“If the dry season continues, most vendors would lose out because of the shortages of vegetables to sell at the market,” she said.

“From Monday until today, we can’t get rourou leaves and ota.

“We only have lettuce and cabbage and that to in less quantity. “Currently, there is less vegetable supply from the farmers in the Sigatoka Valley.”

Market vendor Kamta Prasad said the ongoing drought had affected them in terms of income.

“We have felt the low vegetable supply as a result of this, and we hope the dry season would end soon.

“Previously we used to buy peanut priced at $3 per kg, however, now we are buying at $6 per kg.

“We used to sell lettuce at $1 a heap, but now we are selling that at $2 or $3,” said Mr Prasad.
