The global COVID-19 pandemic has had extensive impacts on Fijian families, and this Diwali should provide a time of reflection to display love and affection, and tolerance and understanding for each other.
SODELPA president Ratu Epenisa Cakobau conveyed this in his message as he extended the party’s greetings on the occasion of this year’s festival of lights.
He said Diwali had been an important annual event for the Hindu religion, celebrated in Fiji since the Girmit era, and celebrated as a public holiday.
“It is also a recognition and celebration of our diversity as a multicultural nation and SODELPA is committed to forging a strong, united, and multicultural Fiji embracing religious tolerance,” Ratu Epenisa said.
“We join in celebrating the essence of Diwali – a festival of new beginnings, the triumph of good over evil, and light over darkness.”
