THE investigation into the death of Police Constable Peniasi Racagi remains under review by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
The ODPP confirmed this in response to questions from this newspaper about the status of the investigation and whether forensic analysis of samples sent to New Zealand had been completed.
“The matter is currently under review according to the ODPP standard procedures,” the ODPP confirmed.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime, Loraini Seru, confirmed the analysis report had been returned and submitted to the ODPP.
The Fiji Times also contacted New Zealand Police seeking clarification on when the samples were received, when testing was completed and other matters relating to the forensic analysis, and were directed back to Fiji Police.
“You will need to contact Fiji Police in the first instance here as this is their investigation.”
The samples were sent to New Zealand because of limitations with forensic equipment available locally.
Constable Racagi, who was based at the Lami Police Station, went missing during his night shift on February 20. His body was found floating near the beach behind the Lami Oceania Wesley Church the following morning.
