THE Government is assessing a suspected cybersecurity incident involving a regional organisation based in Suva after being formally notified by the United States Embassy in Fiji.

The Ministry of Policing and Communications confirmed that officials from the ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade had met with embassy representatives to discuss the matter.

The investigation is being handled through the Fiji Computer Emergency Response Team (Fiji CERT), which has established contact with the organisation and is prepared to assist with the response.

“At this stage, it would be premature to comment further on the specific details of the incident,” the ministry said in a statement.

The suspected incident comes amid growing concerns about cyber threats and the need for organisations to strengthen their digital security measures.

The ministry urged Government agencies, businesses and civil society organisations to remain vigilant, maintain appropriate cybersecurity safeguards and continuously monitor their networks for suspicious activity.

It also called on organisations to promptly report any cybersecurity incident or suspected cyberattack to Fiji CERT.

The ministry said the Government remained committed to safeguarding Fiji’s digital environment, strengthening national cybersecurity resilience and supporting regional cooperation in addressing emerging cyber threats.

The statement did not identify the regional organisation involved or provide details about the nature, scale or possible impact of the suspected incident.
