DURING her school days, it was a normal routine to leave home on Sunday for the school hostel in Burua and they will get to see their families again on Friday afternoon.
And on Saturdays, the whole day was spent out in their cassava plantation. It will be an early morning trip and they will return at dusk.
Sunday is preparation day to return to the dormitory.
This is Merewai Cumu’s routine growing up in her primary school years.
But no regrets.
In fact, since she started representing Fiji in rugby, every time she dons the white jersey, all these experiences and memories always play itself back to her, remembering how she grew up with her siblings and how her parents worked hard for them.
Reaching the pinnacle in her sporting career at 18, she says she is thankful to God for the blessing and that she will always arm herself with humility.
