COVID-19 positive mothers who gave birth at the Lautoka Hospital have been provided with essential supplies from the Foundation of Rural Integrated Enterprises and Development (FRIEND) Fiji.

According to the non-profit organisation, the delivery of the essential items was made possible through a collaborative effort with the Fiji Women’s Rights Movement.

“Maternity pads and baby diapers as well as some baby clothes and snacks for moms,” the NGO said.

“Please pray for their speedy recovery.

“We thank all donors who have helped us put these together.”

The group also reached out to Fijians living with disabilities with the help of the Australian Government.

“Disabilities due to non-communicable diseases in Fiji affect entire families, who struggle to care for those affected.

“Many crawl around to use toilets and showers, some get carried by family members when they have someone to help with lifting.

“Often basic amenities are far away from their dwelling, making it difficult for caregivers and very challenging for people living with disabilities.

“During this pandemic, they remain at high risk of neglect and being infected if caregivers are brought in from outside.

“This week we received three requests for wheelchairs from family members in Ba and Lautoka.

“Where needed, family members were shown how to assemble and use these mobility aids.”
