Fijian Police recorded 59 arrests for breach of curfew orders and public health restrictions in the last 24 hours.

And the majority of those arrests were of those found loitering and those gathering for grog sessions.

Also among the arrests was a non-essential business operating in the Makoi area.

Fiji’s Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu said the Southern Division recorded 21 cases – nine people were found in the Valelevu area for gathering and loitering; four were found gathering at the Raiwaqa PRB flat; and two students aged 18 and 17 years and a 35-year-old woman were found loitering in the same area during curfew hours.

He said a 16-year-old boy was arrested during curfew hours while returning from a canteen, and a case of operating a non-essential business was recorded in Makoi.

He said two were found drinking liquor at the Navutulevu area in Serua, and a 32-year-old man was found loitering along Marine Drive during curfew hours.

“The Eastern Division recorded 25 cases where nine were found drinking grog at Vunisei Village in Toga, while 10 cases of breach of curfew orders were recorded in Naivilaca Village, Rewa,” ACP Tudravu said.

“Of the six people arrested in Levuka, five were found drinking homebrew at Visoto Village while a 42-year-old man was found not wearing a mask while traveling in a PSV.

“Twelve cases were recorded in the Western Division, including three men in their 30s who were arrested for crossing the containment area while seven people were arrested in the Saunaka area for being intoxicated.

“A 38-year-old taxi driver was arrested in Waiyavi, Lautoka, for driving without a pass while a 24-year-old woman was found loitering along the Korotogo area in Sigatoka.”

He said the lone case recorded in the Central Division involved a 39-year-old who was found walking along Pender Street during curfew hours.

ACP Tudravu had said that Police would not hesitate to bring people into their custody if they continue to disregard restrictions put in place by the Ministry of Health.
