THE COVID-19 assistance will only be focused on companies, individuals and areas that have been identified by Government, says Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) chief executive officer Jaoji Koroi.

At this stage, assistance to Fijians who have also lost their employment outside of the identified areas is unclear.

Mr Koroi said the fund had emailed a total of 1813 employers and a total of 43,000 employees had been identified.

“At this stage, our focus is on the list of areas that has been identified, of course because this is relief that is going to be funded by the Government, also they will advise us on which areas to include,” he said.

“Only those companies that have been identified will be assisted for now.

“We know that the relief assistance that was announced in the budget provides other assistance for members and we hope that they will consider those options before thinking about accessing their own retirement funds. He said members must remember that the fund was a retirement savings scheme.

“We will continue to encourage members to exhaust other relief options and those members whose hours or wages have not been affected, please do not withdraw your funds.”
