Fifty-five new cases of positive COVID-19 infections have been reported for the past seven days by Fiji’s Ministry of Health and Medical Services.
Ministry permanent secretary Dr James Fong said 29 of those new cases were reported in the Western Division, two new cases in the Eastern Division, and 27 new cases in the Northern Division.
He said the Central Division cases constituted 71 per cent of the cumulative total cases nationally, with the Western Division making up 28 per cent and 1 per cent in the Northern and Eastern divisions.
“The 27 new cases recorded in the north are quarantine cases that are part of the repatriation program for the Northern Division. There is ongoing surveillance conducted for all repatriates,” Dr Fong said in his COVID-19 update tonight.
Since the last update, Fiji has recorded 58 new cases, of which 27 were recorded on November 9, and 31 new cases in the last 24 hours ending at 8am today.
Dr Fong said the weekly incidence rate graph by division indicated a continually declining trend.
He also reported four COVID deaths – all from the Western Division.
There have been 679 deaths due to COVID-19 in Fiji, with 677 of those deaths recorded during the outbreak that started in April this year.
