THE trial of a Sigatoka couple accused of forcing an 18-year-old student to ingest a lethal chemical three years ago has been adjourned to tomorrow by the High Court in Lautoka
Mohammed Naushad and Nazreen Nisha Khan appeared before High Court Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza this afternoon each facing a charge of murder stemming from the alleged incident at a house in Maro on 30 June.
Mr Naushad faces an additional charge of criminal intimidation.
Defence lawyer Iqbal Khan, representing the couple alongside Samuela Heritage, immediately pressed the court for transcript access regarding the initial police interviews.
Justice Hamza said an application detailing this request would have to be made.
State lawyer Sheenal Swastika informed the court that while the state maintains a total list of 29 witnesses, prosecutors likely will not call every individual to the stand.
Instead, the state intends to notify defence counsel which specific witnesses will tender their official statements.
Justice Hamza adjourned the matter to tomorrow where it will be heard at 10am.
