A SUSPENDED police officer and his partner have opted to be tried in the Magistrate’s Court after being charged over the alleged assault of a 12-year-old boy.
The pair appeared before Magistrate Lice Manulevu in the Nasinu Magistrate’s Court yesterday, jointly charged with an act intended to cause grievous harm.
It is alleged the pair unlawfully and maliciously caused grievous harm to the child by assaulting him with an extension cord on September 8.
Senior prosecutor Simione Seruvatu objected to bail, citing the domestic relationship between the accused and the victim and the possibility of interference.
Magistrate Manulevu remanded both accused in custody and advised them to file formal bail applications.
The court heard that both accused had received first-phase disclosures.
The magistrate also issued an interim Domestic Violence Restraining Order against the accused to protect the victim.
The court further remanded the couple in custody, adjourning the case to October 21.
