The Ministry of Policing and Communications is urging organisations to immediately update their website systems following the discovery of a critical security vulnerability affecting PHP, a technology widely used to run websites and online services.
In an advisory issued on October 22, the ministry warned that failure to apply the latest security updates could expose vulnerable systems to cybercriminals.
It said attackers could potentially access sensitive information, disrupt online services or take control of vulnerable websites.
Organisations operating websites or online services are advised to check whether their systems use PHP and ensure the latest security updates are installed as soon as possible.
The ministry also urged organisations to review internet-facing systems for potential exposure and monitor their systems for unusual or suspicious activity.
It stressed that keeping systems updated was one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect against cyber threats.
Organisations have been directed to visit the official Fiji Computer Emergency Response Team (Fiji CERT) cybersecurity advisory website at cyber.gov.fj for details on affected PHP versions and recommended security measures.
