Ministry of Health officials have been requested to regularly visit rural communities under their area of work.

This was revealed by Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete, during his tour of the Northern Division this week.

Dr Waqainabete said regular engagement with communities helped to instil in members of the public trust and support for Government’s work of delivering health service to people who lived in rural areas.

“One thing that I made very clear to our staff was the importance of them visiting the community on a regular basis,” Dr Waqainabete said.

He said gaining the people’s trust could not happen if his staff members continued to operate from “inside the office”.

“We need to sit down together with them often, talk to them and understand the issues they face,” he said.

Dr Waqainabete visited the villages of Wainigadru and Vuniwai in Natewa Bay, Cakaudrove on Wednesday.
