CO-OPERATION between the Fiji Navy and New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) continues to grow with Operation Wasawasa II to commence soon.
This after the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) patrol vessel HMNZS Taupo arrived in Suva yesterday morning to conduct combined maritime patrols with the Fiji Navy over the next three months.
This is the second consecutive year that the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) is helping Fiji patrol its exclusive economic zone of more than 1.2 million square kilometres.
Commanding officer for the HMNZS Taupo Lieutenant Benjamin Flight said the crew looked forward to working with their Fiji counterparts and build on the good work that was achieved last year.
“We also hope to learn from each other and further strengthen the ties between our two militaries,” Lt Flight said.
