Good vision is very important for every child’s learning and development. Many children do not realise they have eye problems because they think everyone sees the same way they do. This is why school eye screening plays an important role in protecting children’s eye health and helping them succeed in school.

School eye screening is a simple process where children’s eyesight is checked at school. It helps to find vision problems early, such as short-sightedness, long-sightedness, lazy eye, or other eye conditions. When these problems are discovered early, treatment can begin quickly. This may include wearing glasses, eye exercises, or visiting an eye specialist. Early treatment can prevent serious vision problems later in life.

Clear vision is closely connected to learning. Children use their eyes for reading books, writing notes, using computers, and seeing the classroom board. If a child cannot see properly, they may struggle in school, lose interest in studies, or have difficulty paying attention, outdoor activities. Some children may even be wrongly considered lazy or weak in studies when the real problem is poor eyesight. Eye screening helps teachers and parents understand these problems and provide support.

School eye screening also improves children’s confidence and daily life. A child with good vision can take part more actively in sports, games, and classroom activities. They feel happier and more comfortable when they can see clearly and communicate better with others.

Another important reason for school eye screening is that it raises awareness among parents and students about eye care. Children learn healthy habits such as reading in proper light, limiting screen time, and protecting their eyes from injury.

In conclusion, school eye screening is very important because it helps detect eye problems early, improves learning, and supports children’s overall wellbeing. Healthy eyes help children perform better in school and enjoy a better quality of life. Therefore, regular eye screening in schools should be encouraged for every child.
