FORMER Fiji champion Epeli Bua showed his class to take out the Supercool Snooker Shootout Championship at the South Seas Club in Lautoka on Saturday. Bua defeated rising star Vikrant Sharma 3-1 in the final.

In the semi-finals, Bua downed Raymond Reddy 3-1 while Sharma defeated Philip Gock by the same score.

Ironically the four players who reached the semi-finals are part of the Simla Dragons Club which won the Phil’s Autoport 2020 league knockout final.

Tournament coordinator Roneel Sami said the event was played in memory of the Late Mr and Mrs Narayan of Wairebetia, Lautoka. Sami said Saten Narayan of Supercool Group Fiji sponsored the tournament.

He said more sponsors had shown interest to support snooker tournaments at the South Seas Club.

“Apart from the monthly tournaments, the weekly competition on Sundays is gaining momentum,” Sami said.

“There are many new players taking up snooker which is a positive sign for development of the sport.”

Results: (Quarter-finals) Epeli Bua 2 Ajesh Chand 0, Raymond Reddy 2 Kushal 0, Philip Gock 2 Ritesh Tagi 1, Vikrant Sharma 2 Roneel Sami 1.
