CARPENTERS Fiji Ltd yesterday organised a small Christmas party for children living with cancer as well as from orphanages around Suva as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Carpenters’ general manager Global Business Improvement Pawan Sharma said this was year-end tradition for the company.
“Every year, we commemorate Christmas with orphanages and the Fiji Cancer Society. Ever since we started MHCC, we’ve done that every year,” he said.
“The purpose of this is to celebrate with all of society and also those who are less fortunate. They are also remembered by the company.”
Around 125 children from Dilkusha Home, WOWS Kids Fiji and the Happy Home Trust and their families were treated to entertainment, ice cream, sweets, cakes, gifts and lunch.
“Lunch is provided by sponsors who are our food court tenants,” Mr Sharma said.
Sponsors included Shiva’s Restaurant, Sri Lankan Restaurant, Joji’s, Huang Ji R888, Lunchbox and DMC.
An emotional mother of three Ema Nasome, thanked Carpenters for organising the event.
Her six-year-old son Sakiusa Vakalala had suffered from kidney failure shortly after he was born and was part of the WOWS Kids group.
“This is the first time for us to attend,” Ms Nasome said.
“It really makes big a difference to their lives.”
