THE Chinese community in Fiji came together in Suva to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival and the upcoming China National Day, bringing together members of the community, Government representatives and Chinese diplomatic officials.
While opening the celebration, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica highlighted the cultural ties and longstanding relationship between Fiji and China.
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is a time when Chinese families come together and give thanks for the harvest, was celebrated alongside China National Day, which will be marked on October 1.
Mr Kamikamica said the two occasions provided an opportunity to recognise the contribution of Fiji’s Chinese community.
He highlighted co-operation between Fiji and China in areas including infrastructure, education, trade, investment and cultural exchanges.
“I wish to convey the Fijian Government’s congratulations to China ahead of its National Day and our commitment to strengthening Fiji and China relationships,” Mr Kamikamica said.
