MEMBERS of the Sigatoka business community are calling for stronger security for communities in the area following the death of 38-year-old Vimal Nand on Sunday.
Nadroga Navosa Chamber of Commerce and Industries president Sailesh Naidu said it was unfortunate that a dispute had escalated to a point where a man’s life was taken away from his family.
Two suspects were arrested on Monday.
Mr Naidu, who is a close friend of the victim, said he was devastated by Mr Nand’s tragic death.
“We worked together at Warwick Hotels, and I remember him being a very friendly and kind man with a warm heart,” said Mr Naidu.
“He was always smiling and always made an effort to stop and talk to people.
“This is a big loss for his family, his community and for the Sigatoka people.”
Mr Naidu said the suspects must be dealt with the full brunt of the law.
“We demand justice for Vimal’s family and his wife and children.
“This type of outlawed behaviour must not be tolerated at all. We can’t let people with this type of attitude roam our community and attack innocent people without any legitimate and valid reason.
“A life has been taken away. A father and a husband. There should be some kind of justice given to his family and close friends.”
According to police, the suspects confronted the victim, his son and another student while they were out horse riding.
Mr Nand was later found unconscious by his brother with serious head injuries.
He was transferred to the Sigatoka Hospital then to Nadi and later to the Lautoka Hospital where he later died despite attempts to revive him.
