OPPOSITION Leader Inia Seruiratu has urged Fijians to respect the views of those participating in the review process of the 2013 Constitution.
As the nation wide public consultation continues, Mr Seruiratu said there has been a number of public discussions arising from recent participants such as the Great Council of Chiefs.
“Let me just say that with the process that is already in place, we need to respect the participation, the willingness, and of course the right to be heard for those who are making submissions,” said Mr Seruiratu during the recent Parliament sitting.
“I am saying this because people are already making comments on the various submissions that are already being made.
“The Great Council of Chiefs have a right to make submission.
“They have a right to be heard, but then there are a lot of comments already being made.
“Let the process take its course.”
Mr Seruiratu said he had faith and confidence in the process that was in place to review the 2013 Constitution.
“Of course we have differing views, but in the end this is something that is going to affect us.
“While I cannot speak to what the outcome will be, it is always good to reflect on the issues that contributed to the various changes in the past.
“Issues about ethno-political factors, issues about socio-economic factors, issues about governance, socio-psychological factors, socio-cultural factors, the role of the military itself, and of course, other sources of power, particularly the role of the media and that of the church as well.
“The media, I hope, will take responsibility, because there are already so many comments being made.”
