Passengers travelling by air are now subject to stricter rules on carrying power banks and spare batteries onboard aircraft as authorities move to reduce the risk of onboard fires.
Under the new restrictions, power banks must be carried as carry-on baggage and cannot be placed in checked luggage. Passengers are also limited to carrying no more than two power banks per person.
The CAAF advisory states that power banks must be individually protected to prevent short circuits, either by keeping them in original retail packaging, taping exposed terminals, or placing them in separate plastic bags or protective pouches.
Passengers have also been warned that power banks must not be recharged while onboard aircraft and cannot be used to recharge portable electronic devices during flights.
The restrictions include limits based on battery capacity, with power banks above 100 watt-hours requiring approval from airline operators.
The advisory also notes that airlines may impose additional restrictions and conditions on the carriage of power banks and spare batteries.
Travellers are being urged to seek further advice from airline representatives before travelling to avoid delays or confiscation of items at airports.
