A groupbof Leadership Fiji Alumini’s who set out to assist the people of Vunidogoloa-Kenani village in Cakaudrove, Vanua Levu, received a huge boost from Pacific Energy (SWP) Pte Ltd.
On Wednesday, the company gave $5000 towards the LF2022 Cohort project which aims to establish a sustainable multipurpose bus shelter and marketplace for the villagers.
Pacific Energy (SWP) Pte Ltd chief executive officer Xavier Baronnet said the assistance was part of the corporate social responsibility program.
“We’ve worked with Leadership Fiji in the past and when the proposal came to us we saw it as an opportunity to help the community that we are in and it aligns well with our CSR program,” he said.
“I thought the proposal that the LF group came with was very fitting with what we are trying to achieve in the community.
“We are trying to develop more and more within Fiji and the region and that also means going into the rural communities and helping where we can.”
LF2022 Cohort team leader Doctor Deepak Sharma said the assistance provided a huge boost to their Fellowship Project.
“We are very grateful that Pacific Energy Ltd has come on board to help us with our Fellowship Project. It gives us hope that we are working in the right direction.
“To have a big company like Pacific Energy Ltd commit this money towards our project also gives us hope that there will be other corporate bodies to come on board and assist us in helping the people of Vunidogoloa and Kenani.”
After graduating as Leadership Fiji Alumini’s in 2022, the 28 aspiring leaders agreed to work together in setting up a sustainable bus shelter and marketplace for the Vunidologoa villagers.
Dr Sharma said they were inspired to pursue the project after visiting the village during their LF Northern tour last year.
“This is a community that is working on finding a livelihood despite the challenges of climate change and we were inspired to help them find a sustainable source of income that could help them.
“Most importantly, the project aligns with our LF2022 Vision for a united, safe, healthy and heard Fiji in 2032 and where we celebrate diversity, integrity and equal opportunity with the resilience to respond and adapt to a changing world.”
