“THIS festive season was one of the best for our business.”

This was the sentiment shared by 60-year-old Vakabalea roadside vendor Vasiti Seru when a team from this newspaper visited Navua yesterday.

Ms Seru said she had been selling near the roadside for more than 25 years now and this year was one of the best for her business.

“Before, I used to sell from the Navua market but business from this spot is very good now as more travellers pass by,” Ms Seru said.

“Some vegetables we grow at our farms and some we buy from Sigatoka only. Root crops like sweet potatoes, dalo and cassava we plant in the farms.”

She said dalo and rourou leaves were the number one seller during Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

“Just on Christmas Day, I managed to make around $300 to $400. This depended on the produce I had. The more produce I have, the more I can sell,” she said.

She added her plans for the new year included planting more root crops and earning more than what she had generated this year.
