For more than three decades, golf has been a constant in the life of Manjoor Begg, shaping his weekends, friendships and love for the game.
The Laucala Beach Estate, Suva resident arrived at the Fiji Golf club in Vatuwaqa, Suva, eager to enjoy the challenge and the company of fellow golfers during the NERITAK Equipment Stroke Saturday tourney yesterday.
A member of both the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club and the Fiji Golf Club, Begg said his passion for golf has never faded despite the passing years.
“I’ve been playing for more than 30 years, and I still enjoy every competition,” Begg said.
Competing in the A- grade division, Begg knows the standard of competition is always high, but that is what keeps him motivated.
“The competition will be tough in our group, but I will try my best,” he said.
Begg believe tournaments like this are about much more than winning.
They bring golfers together, encourage participation and create opportunities for sponsors to support the continued growth of the sport.
“Every week there is a tournament, and it’s good when sponsors come on board because it gives members the chance to play and enjoy the game,” he said.
He also noted that many events are organised to raise funds for worthwhile causes, giving players another reason to support the competition.
Looking ahead, Begg hopes more people will take up golf and experience the enjoyment and friendships the sport has given him over the years.
While players gathered under clear skies for competition yesterday, Begg remains focused on enjoying every round while striving to produce his best performance.
Whether he finishes at the top of the leaderboard or not, Begg believes the greatest reward is simply being out on the course, doing what he has loved for more than 30 years.
