An Australian national who left the country after his house was searched for drugs in 2019 was produced in the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday.

Sam Amine, 46, was produced in court charged with a single count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs contrary to Section 5 (a) of the Illicit Drugs Control Act 2004.

He was granted bail with two sureties and a $3000 bond.

Mr Amine was represented by lawyer Iqbal Khan.

The court issued a stop departure order for the accused, ordered him not to interfere with prosecution witnesses and to report to the Nadi Police Station every Wednesday and Friday.

Police said the arrest was made possible in partnership with Australian Federal Police, Fiji Intelligence Unit, Fiji Revenue and Customs Service and the Fiji Immigration.

Police also said the accused’s home was searched in February, 2019 and illicit substances which tested positive for anabolic substance, which is categorised as Other Illicit Drugs under Part 8 of Schedule 1 of the Illicit Drugs Control Act 2004, were found on his property.

He flew out of the country shortly after the search and returned last week and was arrested upon arrival.
