FIJI 7s rep Josua Vakurinabili is making adjustments with his training program despite the Olympic Games cancellation and the postponement of the World Rugby Sevens Series because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vakurinabili married his sweetheart Sereima Taiji last week. Today he is a proud father after the birth of his son Ratu Luke Vidovi last week.

Amid the celebrations, Vakurinabili, a prison warden, will continue training for the continuation of the 7s series and next year’s Olympics.

Members of the Fiji 7s squad have been given training programs to follow during the cancellation by head coach Gareth Baber.

“As a player I have goals to achieve,” he said. “They are to participate in the Olympics and win a medal for my son and that is only possible if I continue to train hard and follow the program given by our coach.

“I will always try to be there for my family when they need me. It is all about communication and understanding each other.”

The robust forward said every international sevens player’s dream was to be part of the Olympics. “It’s all about sacrifice and dedication and my wife has been very supportive. I am aiming to be an Olympian for them and for my families.”

The Vatukarasa Village lad from Nadroga has played 132 games for Fiji and scored 42 tries with a total of 210 points. In the ongoing series, he has played 19 games, gained 10 points for Fiji.

Meanwhile, Baber will monitor his players during this rest period.
