National Union of Workers general secretary Felix Anthony’s lawyer informed Suva magistrate Seini Paumau yesterday they needed to clarify the charge with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

Mr Anthony is charged with one count of malicious act.

The charge is linked to news reports related to the expiry of the Water Authority of Fiji’s workers’ contracts.

Defence lawyer Filimoni Vosarogo said his client had released a number of press releases between April 29, 2019 and May 1, 2019.

He said they wanted to know which one in particular the State was relying on in the case.

He said the charges were vague and these were the concerns he would be pursuing with the ODPP.

Magistrate Paumau advised the defence to ensure the external communication with the ODPP was made before the next court date.

Mr Anthony had bail extended and the matter has been adjourned to August 10 for pre-trial conference and to fix a hearing date.
