Fiji Airports Ltd has received the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CPIS) award in the Highly Commended in the Best Procurement Transformation and Change Program category at the 2026 CIPS ANZ Excellence in Procurement and Supply Awards in Australia.

The international recognition acknowledges Fiji Airports’ transformation of procurement from a finance-embedded, largely manual stores process into a board-approved standalone function that supports the organisation’s strategic priorities and billion-dollar infrastructure expansion and technological modernisation projects.

According to Fiji Airports, the transformation introduced stronger governance, improved transparency and audit readiness, enhanced supplier engagement, and established a new procurement framework under which 118 tenders had been processed.

It stated the program also resulted in the closure of 11 audit findings and strengthened procurement’s role in support the institution as it prepared to deliver a $2.3 billion infrastructure program.

Fiji Airports chief executive officer Mesake Nawari said this was the first time for an organisation from Fiji to receive a CIPS award, and demonstrated that their commitment to governance, transparency, fairness and sustainability were being recognised internationally.

He said the transformation had fundamentally changed the way procurement supported their strategic direction.

“Procurement is a strategic function that enables us to deliver world-class infrastructure, strengthen operational performance, manage risk and create long-term value for our stakeholders,” Mr Nawari said.

“This highly commended recognition validates the dedication of our procurement team and the collective commitment of our board, executive leadership team and staff to embedding international best practice across Fiji Airports.

“Fiji Airports continues to punch above its weight,” Mr Nawari said.

He said the institution now operated under a procurement policy framework designed to improve transparency, accountability and operational efficiency while supporting sustainable infrastructure investment and responsible business practices.
