Shirleen Lata has told her two sons that the only option for them was to adjust to the new normal for this year.

“I have told them to adjust and we will use whatever is remaining from last year,” she said. The Manganese Mine, Nadi resident said she did not buy anything for her children.

“One of my sons will go to kindergarten this year and at the moment, I have not bought anything for him and the other one is in Year 2. I have told him to reuse things from last year.”

Ms Lata said there was a lot of tension as sending children to school was a demanding task.

“There is a lot of tension in my mind, not only with regards to books, bags or shoes, as on a daily basis they will require food parcels as well.”

She said the pandemic had disrupted a lot of things.

“My husband, who is a lorry driver, is not working at the moment and does odd jobs at times to sustain us,” said Ms Lata.
