A BA man has been remanded in custody after allegedly posting a photograph of methamphetamine for sale in a Viber chat group.
Mohammed Shahil Abraan, 32, appeared in court before Magistrate Namrata Mishra yesterday.
He is charged with unlawful possession of 0.39 grams of methamphetamine and breaching his bail conditions.
Police prosecutor Pranil Nair objected to bail.
He told the court that Mr Abraan had previously faced a similar charge of possessing methamphetamine and was granted bail on July 2. He added that this was the second matter before the court involving Mr Abraan and there was a likelihood the accused could commit a similar offence if released on bail.
Arguing his case, Mr Abraan told the court he had not breached his bail conditions.
He claimed the drugs found at his residence were connected to the theft of his personal belongings.
Magistrate Mishra directed Mr Abraan to file a formal bail application for the court’s consideration.
Mr Abraan also sought a court order allowing him to remove his personal belongings from the house he had been renting, claiming that they could be stolen.
Magistrate Mishra told him the request was outside the court’s jurisdiction.
The matter has been adjourned to October 6.
