A man alleged to have murdered Hasneel Sharma, whose body was found at an old Lautoka service station recently, was produced before the Lautoka Magistrates Court yesterday.

Josaia Vukivuki, 28, appeared before magistrate Nayani Kasturiratne to answer to a count of murder.

Police prosecutor Sgt Arvin Kumar strongly objected to bail because the case was a highly publicised one and witnesses were from Natokowaqa, the same area where the accused was from.

Mr Vukivuki informed the court he was the sole breadwinner in his family and granting him bail would give him a chance to go back home and support his family.

However, the State objected saying Mr Vukivuki has an assault case pending before the magistrates court.

The accused remains remanded and has waived his rights to counsel.

The prosecutor also informed the court that there was another suspect in the case yet to be arrested and police were waiting on forensic evidence to continue investigations.

The case has been transferred to the High Court and will be called for mention on February 7.
