ABOUT 40 children from two orphanages in Nadi spent New Year’s Day soaking in the sights and sounds of the newly-refurbished Nadi International Airport before being hosted to lunch and fun activities at the Fiji Airports swimming pool.
Salome Pareti from Treasure House said being treated like royalty was a huge boost for the children.
“We would like to thank Fiji Airports’ staff for sacrificing this public holiday — which they could have spent with their families — and for thinking of these children,” she said.
“There have been conversations and dreams born today (yesterday) about becoming pilots — so who knows where some of these children will be in the years to come.”
Fiji Airports’ communications and public relations officer Christopher Chand said instead of hosting a party for its employees, executive chairman Faiz Khan asked the management team to do “something different”.
“We won some prizemoney when we took out the Excellence in Service award at the Prime Minister’s International Business Awards earlier this year,” he said.
“So we topped this up and invited the children from Treasure House and St Mina Children’s Home to tour the new airport facility and then drove them to the Fiji Airports swimming pool where we had a surprise lunch and fun activities for them.”
