LOMARY Secondary School has qualified for the Under-18 Weet-Bix Raluve semi-finals for the first time in the school’s history following a 38-5 victory over Bua Central College last Saturday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
Assistant coach Samuela Gucake said the achievement was a significant milestone for the side, which had waited several years for an opportunity to reach the semifinals.
Gucake also acknowledged Bua Central, who travelled from Vanua Levu to compete in the competition.
“This is the first-time for us to be at the semifinal after so many years of competing in the girls’ division,” Gucake said.
He said the team would now focus on improving its execution ahead of next week’s semifinal, where the competition would become tougher.
“I believe we need to perfect our execution. We know that the competition will only get tougher.
Gucake said some players were playing rugby for the first time, making teamwork and preparation important heading into the semifinal.
He said the message to the players before the match was simple, give 100 per cent effort and have no excuses, regardless of the result.
Gucake thanked supporters who turned up for the match and called on more fans to support the team next week.
“We are calling on all the supporters next week to come out in numbers. Come in your blue colours and let’s support the girls,” he said.
